Symrise and Aplantex give traction to the circular economy

Nature upholds the global economy
As underlined by the World Economic Forum, more than half of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) is moderately or highly dependent on nature. In light of the twin crises of climate change and nature collapse with wildfires multiplying and freshwater and food supplies under increased pressure, business leaders must ramp up action to accelerate the transition toward a nature-positive future. As a contributor to nature loss through land conversion, water usage, greenhouse gas emissions, and pollution, the personal care industry has a crucial role to play in keeping up with the commitments of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

As a key part of the supply chain of many leading brands of consumer products, Symrise applies the principles of the circular economy across all levels of the value chain:
– Elimination of waste and environmental pollution,
– Circulation of non-renewable resources in cycles,
– And sustainable extraction of renewable resources while simultaneously regenerating nature.
At Aplantex, we use our proprietary photosynthetic phytoreplicators to produce biomass from which we extract the same molecules that Symrise currently sources from agriculture or other traditional industrial methods, but more tightly in sync with the circular economy principles. Our innovative process is carbon neutral, uses atmospheric carbon dioxide, recirculated water and nutrients, renewable hydroelectric energy, and generates no waste. As there is no need to deal with complex global transportation issues nor depend on lengthy and uncertain agricultural cycles, we represent a powerful solution to address core environmental issues responsibly.
